Sueño Monarca thanks you for choosing to dedicate some of your time to support and empower our immigrant community. Did you know that as of 2022, 13.9% of Illinois' population is made up of immigrants? That’s about 1.7 million people, including many in our own neighborhoods (Higher Ed Immigration Portal).

Sueño Monarca was founded with a strong commitment to support immigrant youth, inspired by the challenges faced by the founder, a DACA recipient, and her family. With experiences such as no access to FAFSA, the fear of deportation, and constant uncertainty regarding immigration status, the founder recognized the need for a platform to provide the resources that were not available to her during her journey. This organization was created to ensure immigrant youth have access to the support, opportunities, and guidance they deserve.

The Monarch butterfly was chosen as our symbol because of its significance in representing migration, transformation, and the strength to endure. In various cultures, Monarch butterflies are seen as the returning spirits of loved ones, symbolizing resilience. We apply this symbolism to our mission—our Monarca Volunteers embody the spirit of resilience and strength that we see in our community.

As a Monarca Volunteer, you will work alongside us to support Hispanic/Latin(a/o/x) immigrant youth and their families, helping to provide essential resources, information, and guidance. It’s okay if you don’t have all the answers—what matters is that we learn and grow together, as we create lasting change in our community.
